Track the tasks that you’ve finished!

Years ago I found a technique that worked well for motivating me – keeping a list of things that I’ve done. Over the years I’ve filled many notebooks making lists for each day showing the things that I had done. This could be small tasks like doing dishes, or major tasks like cleaning the garage. But, it could also be fun things like going to a movie or meeting with a friend. In any case, I had a record of things that I did that day that could be looked back at.

Well, after years of doing this on paper, I finally decided it was time to move onto something more modern – an app. So, here we are. TaDone! does all those things I used to do on paper – plus much more. It not only records the task and the day it was completed, it also lets you add a category to each task. It starts with a few basic categories, but can add your own.

Not only can you record tasks as you do them, you can easily look back at earlier days. To make this even easier it includes the ability to search by task name or category. This way, you can see the last time you might have watered a plant, or gone to the store.

But, since this is about motivation, the app does more. To push you to keep coming back, the app tracks your longest streaks of usage. It also gives various awards for completing tasks. If that wasn’t enough, it lets you look at your data in several ways – including a chart of how many times each category is used in a given time period. You can also quickly look at a months worth of tasks with a calendar view.
